Simple Printer Issues

Laser Printers - Parallel printers that have the PCL Language codes embedded in the printer.

Dot Matrix - Okidata 320 is the best choice.

USB - Can be used with our snapwp.exe utility.  For best performance though, use a printer that has the PCL codes embedded in the printer itself.  

Network Printers - Printers that can be connected directly to the network can be used. SNAP-2-IT can print directly to the UNC name.  The best solution is to set the printer up on a Windows 2000 Server and then share it.

 

Printer Doesn't Print

  • 1) Make sure of the obvious stuff first.  Printer is on and is online with paper available

  • 2) Make sure that the cables are connected and you can print a test page.

  • 3) Open the Printer Folder. Then open the printer properties and see if the print job is there.  If it is, delete it.  Then try printing again.

  • 4) Make sure that the SNAP-2-IT "printers that I use" is set up to use the correct driver.

  • 5) Make sure you have selected the correct printer when you printed.

  • 6) If you are printing directly to shared names, make sure the network share name (UNC-name: Universal Naming Convention: \\<server-name>\<share-name>) is the same in the SNAP-2-IT driver set up. If you are sure this is correct and you still can't print, then you may have a permissions problem using the shared device or server.

  • 7) If you are using the capture printer option, make sure the printer is still captured to the correct LPT port assignment.  If not simply recapture it by browsing the network neighborhood and locating the shared printer.

  • 10) If it is a local printer, open a DOS or Command prompt and try to print by sending data directly to the print by typing "dir > lpt1" (only if parallel printer).  If no response then a piece of hardware has failed.  Either the cable or printer itself.
