Screen
Definition:
Header Bar
The header
bar displays which company is active, the date &
time, and which user is logged in. It is always located at
the top of the screen.
Menu
The menu
area displays the valid choices. Simply press the key
or click on the number with the mouse.
Prompt bar
The prompt bar is
always at the bottom of the screen and displays options
that aren’t part of the menu. On data entry screens, the
prompt bar shows valid options for that screen.
Windows:
Windows
display the records for almost every list. Customers,
vendors, and inventory are examples of what can be
displayed in a window. Windows allow you to add or
delete records from the list. You cannot edit the
data while on a window, however. To change the data for a
record, you need to select the highlighted record.
Notice that in the example above, the prompt bar shows
that the key to press to select a record for this window
is "V" to "view."
When a
record is selected, the fields are displayed in detail, on
a form.
Moving
around in a Window is basic and simple. Use the
Up/Down Arrow keys to move the scroll bar one line at a
time. Use the Page Up/Down keys to move a full screen
worth. Pressing [HOME] will take you to the top of the
list and [End] will take you to the bottom of the list.
Using the Left and Right arrow keys will scroll the window
to the right and left. Some windows may be displayed by a
different sort list. The Prompt Bar will indicate
if this option is available. To change the display order,
press the "-" (minus) key.
To search for a particular
item in a window, press the "S" or the
"=" key (they both work). Whether you can search
for a name, a date or a number depends on how the window
is being displayed, and is controlled by the "-"
key, mentioned above. For example, if you are on the
customer window and you want to search for a particular
city, you need to first press the "-" key and
switch to the city list. Then you can type an
"S" and search for the city.
Forms:
Forms display
the data fields (information) for a record like a customer
address or an invoice header. The Form allows
individual fields to be filled in or modified. A form is
either in "view" mode or "edit"
mode.
In the
"view" mode, no field is highlighted for
editing but the prompt area at the bottom of the screen
contains the "expansion" options. In this
example, pressing "1" goes to the customer
quotes, "2" goes into the orders, etc. Pressing
"E" here goes into the "edit" mode.
The "edit"
mode allows you to enter data or make changes. You can
easily tell that you are in "edit" mode because
one of the fields will be highlighted. The highlighted
field allows data to be entered or changed (edited).
Normally, when you first go into "edit" mode on
a form, the highlighted field will be the upper left most
field.
Moving within a form
After entering
"edit" mode you may type data in a field and
press [ENTER] to move to the next field (usually down). As
soon as you leave the field the data is saved. The [TAB]
key moves across instead of down. You may also use the
Up/Down arrow keys. When you are finished editing a record
press [F10] to return to the "view" mode.
Moving
within fields:
Use the
Left/Right Arrow keys to move the cursor in the field.
Type over any characters to make changes. The [INSERT] key
will insert spaces if you need to add characters in the
middle of a field. The [Home] key moves to the beginning
of the field. The [End] key moves to the end of the field.
The [Delete] key erases a character. You can delete all
the data in a field by pressing [CTRL] & [X] at the
same time. You can restore the data in the field by
pressing [CTRL] & [R] at the same time (as long as you
haven’t left the field).
Date fields
SNAP-2-IT will
not allow an incorrect character to be typed into the date
field.
You may
type a "D" in the 1st character of the field and
today’s date will be entered for you. You may type
"D1" for tomorrow’s date and "D-1"
for yesterday’s date, "D-7" for last week’s
date, etc.
There is a
warning that will appear if you enter a date that is
greatly different from today’s date. You can control the
sensitivity of the warning. From the main menu, press
"C" and then "1". There is a
"date warning range" field which is normally set
for 360 to 370. This is the number of days from today’s
date that you can enter without getting a warning.
Some date
fields will check if the books are closed and may not
allow you to enter or change the date.
Number fields
You can control the number
of decimals that will be used in a number field by
pressing the [CTRL] & [\] keys at the same time (while
you are in "edit" mode, on the field you wish to
customize). This brings up the customizing choices. Choose
"A" for field attributes and then "F"
for format. Feel free to explore the many options that are
available for customizing fields.
